Tanzania Travel Guide

Everything to know before you fly: seasons, costs, documents, health and what to expect on safari.

Tanzania is a large country and its parks are far apart. A realistic first trip covers three or four areas in seven to ten days, with either road transfers or short scheduled flights between them.

The northern circuit — Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro — is the classic route and works well year round. The southern and western circuits are wilder and quieter, and reward travellers with more time.

Most visitors combine safari with either Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar. Two or three nights on the coast after a week in the parks is the most common finish.
