Seasons

Best Time to Visit Tanzania

A month-by-month view of weather, wildlife and prices across the safari circuits.

June to October is the long dry season: sparse vegetation, animals concentrated around water, and the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti from late July. It is the busiest and most expensive period, and for good reason.

January to March brings the calving season on the Ndutu plains, with predators in constant attendance. Skies are dramatic, days are warm and lodges are quieter than in the peak months.

April and May are the long rains. Some remote camps close, roads soften, and rates fall sharply. For photographers and returning visitors it can be the most rewarding time of year.

November and December bring short, brief rains that rarely disrupt a day of game viewing, and the herds move south through the central Serengeti.
