Tanzania Safari Costs Explained

What drives the price of a safari and what a realistic budget looks like.

Park fees are the single largest fixed cost. Serengeti entry, Ngorongoro Crater descent fees, concession levies and government taxes are charged per person per day and are not negotiable.

Accommodation is the biggest variable. Public campsites start around $40 per person per night; mid-range lodges sit between $200 and $400; premium tented camps run from $600 to well over $1,500.

Vehicle and guiding costs are shared across your group, which is why a party of four pays noticeably less per person than a couple travelling privately.

As a rough guide: budget camping safaris from $250 per person per day, mid-range lodge safaris from $450, and luxury journeys from $900 upwards.
